Bio

Katie Ox is a Miami-based DJ and music/event producer on a mission to bring the funk and elevate your soul. Rooted in electronic music and infused with funk, soul, indie, deep house, acid house, disco, hip-hop, and R&B influences, her sound moves fluidly across genres, creating a style that is entirely her own. Refusing to be confined to any one lane, Katie prides herself on reading each crowd and guiding them through a unique journey that is both uplifting and introspective.

She is known for incorporating live instrumentalists into her performances, most notably through her collaborative live project with Mike Garulli, guitarist and vocalist of the acclaimed rock and roll band The Heavy Pets.

Katie Ox’s groovy, uplifting sound has energized dance floors across Miami, from its most sought-after clubs and rooftop venues to major events like the Miami Boat Show, Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, and a residency with the Miami City Ballet. She has performed at standout events including We Belong Here and Daybreaker Miami, and is a regular at top venues such as Floyd, Factory Town, Jolene Sound Room, and the popular Esmé Rooftop.

Alongside her best friend and creative partner Beki Powell, Katie co-founded the DJ duo Birds in Paradise. Together, Katie and Beki host the Flamingo Pool Party series at the renowned Sagamore Hotel in South Beach, drawing over 700 attendees per event. The series blends wellness, balance, and a family-friendly atmosphere with the energy of a classic Miami pool party, reminiscent of the iconic Sagamore gatherings during Miami Music Week. As Birds in Paradise, they also co-host the quarterly “Birds in Paradise: At Play” show on Frisky Radio, as well as a monthly self-titled show on Miami’s legendary Jolt Radio.

Katie released her debut single “Broke Boy” on Justin Jay’s label Fantastic Voyage. Her upcoming release, “Spaceship,” will be featured on Roy Davis Jr.’s label Undaground Therapy, an exceptionally groovy deep house collaboration with close friends and fellow musicians Alan Amorozzo and Bird.

Beyond music, Katie holds a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of Miami. She is the Founder and Director of Thriving Kids and Families, a mental health program based at a Miami community center. In this role, she provides therapy to children and families while training staff in mental health competency and Therapeutic Tutoring, a framework she developed in response to the deficits she witnessed in children during the COVID-19 pandemic to integrate academic support with emotional healing.

Both as a solo artist and through her collaborations, Katie Ox is known for bringing bright, like-minded souls together and activating dance floors with her uplifting, groove-driven sound. Her sets are more than music, they are experiences designed to take listeners on a journey inward and upward, propelling the soul into motion.

“Katie Ox and Mike Garulli were more interesting than any other DJ-esque performer I’ve seen. Katie worked her magic, which is far beyond ‘woah, that beat drop and transition was so good’. Mike riffed on his guitar, matching Katie’s performance and getting into that rare breed of live improvisation that gets a crowd to groove.”
